We organized the Kiwanis Club of Hialeah on December 16, 2013
, after several years spent without Kiwanis in the City of Hialeah. Current and former Kiwanis members got together and decided that Hialeah needed to have a source of community service again, and chartered a new Kiwanis club.
Kiwanis is an international community service organization, with 250,000 members in 8,400 clubs in 90 countries. Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis club, with members contributing over 12 million hours in 150,000 projects and raising $150 million dollars every year. Kiwanis sponsors 8,000 youth service leadership clubs around the world: Circle K (the largest service organization in the world for college students), Key Club (the most prestigious club to join in high school), Builders Club (for middle school students), and K-Kids (for 3rd through 5th graders). It also sponsors Aktion Club for adults living with disabilities, giving them the chance to take part in helping their community also. Founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1915, Kiwanis is one of the oldest service organizations in the world.
Objects of Kiwanis
The six permanent Objects of Kiwanis International were approved by Kiwanis club delegates at the 1924 Kiwanis International Convention in Denver, Colorado. Through the decades, they have remained unchanged.
•To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
•To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
•To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business and professional standards.
•To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship.
•To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities.
•To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism and goodwill.
